THE SECRET BEHIND GOLDEN BOOT FOOTBALL CLUB HISTORY
Although the
history of GBFC officially started on 16th march 2010, but there are
some success stories about this young club and this story can be traced back to
the ancient football in the club’s host community. Before the existence of this
club, football have been already a loved and most practiced sport in Eluama
lokpaukwu, but this have been in a very local form where this sports was played
among young children and during those days football were played within
compounds, local pitches, and with bay-foot .By then we use to play it with a
small foot-measured goal post using blocks as it’s bar, and it was known as
‘’monkey post’’, while in a pitch we use to construct a goal post using bamboo
trees. Football was played for enjoyment, entertainment and exercise and nobody
has the dream of being a professional footballer due our ignorance over it,
matches are being played between communities and kindred’s.
I Nweke
Ephraim with my brother Nweke Kizito (my uncles first son) who happens to be
the best player in our Eluama community were first moved with the spirit of
forming a football club. This was after I traveled out to uturu to continue
with my education (secondary school) and there I came across a football club by
name ‘’young star fc’’ and when I came back during the holidays I told him what
I saw and also gave him the spirit to join me and form a club with the good
talented player of our community. First I went to the back of our gate and
listed some Europeans clubs that I have learnt then according to the way I love
them in a sequential order which involved: Manchester united, Chelsea, arsenal,
Barcelona, Liverpool, A.C millan and Bolten wanderers, and I also drew a logo for the dream
club and gave it the name ‘’young-star’’, and with
that and with the ball my brother recieve from his father as a gift, we forged ahead.
We played
like a team and enjoyed the first stage of our club formation, it was later
that we went to one of our senior brother who usually go to Aba for his
business and we gave a total amount of money we raised after making
contributions within us (players) to buy for us white polo’s and black shots that we will use as
our club jersey but we were disappointed because he failed us and ate our
money. We played morning and evening, even to the extent that our parish rev.
father use to complain that we don’t do any household works in our different
houses and he used to chase us home especially during that our morning training's.
We never
knew God has something for us until on 16th of march 2010 when we
were declared a new club by a young man by name Okoye Emmanuel C. a student of
abia state university from our community who came for their Wednesday alter
servant work at st. clement catholic church and found interest with our young
zeal and then decided to transform us into something more reasonable. He gave us
the name ‘’GOLDEN BOOT’’ and from that day he assume the post of our coach,
coordinator and founder, and that was how the history of G.B.F.C started till
today, the club is located at lokpaukwu umuchieze in umunneochi L.G.A. of Abia
state Nigeria, the club is still and armature club that require sponsorship,
this was just the little secret behind our history that I wish to review to you
to tell you how long we have gone and how hopeful we are that God will see us
through one because day we are born to great .
